What Impulse Anvil Does

Impulse Anvil is for making impulse responses, not only loading them—and it already uses the response as the effect on your track while you work.

ANVIL IS THE EFFECT. Put it on a track, start playback, and Anvil's own stereo convolution engine processes that track through the response you are designing. You do not need another IR loader.

A normal convolution workflow is often:

pick an IR → put sound through it

Anvil adds the creative part inside the effect itself:

playing track → load IRs or recordings → change them → combine them → hear the result directly in Anvil

When you want the response itself as a portable file, Bake it. If you want to return to the complete Anvil setup later, save a preset in OPTIONS.

You can start with almost anything useful

Try:

  • a room or cabinet IR;
  • another IR you already designed;
  • a metal hit;
  • a voice or breath;
  • a scrape;
  • a field recording;
  • a short noise or texture;
  • a tiny section taken from a much longer recording.

The source does not need to sound like a reverb before you load it.

What Anvil lets you do

  • A and B hold two independent starting materials.
  • Time makes them shorter or longer.
  • Color adds changed copies back into the IR.
  • Texture repeats that Color idea in deeper layers.
  • Morph decides how A and B become one new response.
  • A→B Lerp lets the IR itself move from A toward B over time.
  • EDIT searches, cuts, reverses and fades the part you actually want.
  • EQ and Width shape the final IR.
  • Bake saves what you made as a reusable WAV.

Why Bake matters

Bake turns an experiment into new raw material.

You can make:

A + B → C

then load C back in:

C + D → E

and continue.

That is why Impulse Anvil can create results that no single original IR contained.

Technical background

Convolution can use any compatible audio waveform as its impulse-response data. Short material often behaves more like a complex tonal/filter fingerprint; longer material can add stronger time, resonance and decay behavior. Anvil uses that freedom deliberately for sound design instead of limiting the source material to measured acoustic spaces.
