5-Minute Quickstart

Goal: hear why Impulse Anvil exists before learning all of its controls.

ANVIL IS THE EFFECT: put it on a playing track, and an changes that track while you redesign the response in Anvil. You do not need another IR loader.
Using the free demo? Follow Steps 1–5. They teach the core A/B → Time Morph → Edit workflow with demo-available features. Steps 6–7 use the full relationship/authoring system and WAV baking.

1. Put Anvil on a track

Use an instrument or audio track that is already producing sound: drums, voice, guitar, piano or a synth. Start playback—a short loop is ideal—and keep it running while you work. A fairly dry source makes the transformation easiest to hear.

Keep the listening level sensible while experimenting. Unusual IR material can create strong resonances.

2. Load something into A

Click Load in A, or drag a compatible audio file onto the A panel.

If you do not have your own IRs, use a factory IR. A compatible recording can also be useful creative material even when it is not a controlled acoustic measurement.

Click the A panel and listen to what the loaded response does to your track.

Notice: you are not editing the original vocal, drum or synth. You are editing the response that transforms it.

3. Add B and hear Time Morph

Load something obviously different into B. Contrast makes the next step easier to hear.

Click the Morph panel, choose Time Morph, and move Morph.

A and B are material. Morph decides the relationship between them.

Notice: at different Morph positions, the prepared response changes. Your track is now being transformed by that changing response.

4. Change one source before Morph

Return to A or B. Move Time slightly, listen, then try one small Color change.

The demo gives you one Color row per IR, which is enough to hear the distinction.

Notice: this changes A or B itself before Morph decides how the two prepared sources relate.

5. Keep only the useful part

Open EDIT and move Start and End around the part you want.

  • Start before End = forward
  • Start after End = reverse
  • link them = scan one fixed-size window through the IR
  • Shift + drag = fine movement
  • Ctrl + drag = very fine movement

Make the response shorter until the character you like is still there but unnecessary tail is gone.

You now understand the core signal flow. The next two steps use full-license features: the complete Morph relationship library, A→B Lerp/Draw and WAV baking.

6. Choose — then draw — a deeper relationship

Keep A and B unchanged and switch from Time Morph to one other relationship. Try Spectral for a different kind of blend or Common to emphasize what the responses appear to share.

Then return to Time Morph, enable A→B Lerp, choose Draw, and paint one obvious movement between A and B.

Notice: first you changed what relationship Anvil creates. Then Draw made the relationship depth change inside the response itself.

When Draw makes sense, continue to Path, Glue and Omni →

7. Keep it — optionally Bake it

You are already using the response. Anvil is processing the playing track through it while you tweak.

If you want to return to the complete setup later, open OPTIONS and use the preset Save / Load controls. If you want the response itself as a portable file, press Bake.

Bake writes a WAV IR that you can load back into Anvil, combine with something else, or use in another compatible plugin.
